The Yesterday Swing Orchestra, founded by Bob Johnson, is the Shenandoah Valley’s best source for  the authentic “Big Band” entertainment. The classic sounds of Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and others are brought to life by this full eighteen piece musical ensemble. Vocalists John Hudson and others add additional excitement to the performance with stunning soulful renditions of the standards made famous by Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland, Natalie Cole, Tony Bennet and other great vocal talents.

Remembering Bob Johnson

The Yesterday Swing Orchestra honors the memory of our founder and prior director, Mr. Bob Johnson, who passed away  in April, 2022.  The Yesterday Swing Orchestra has now restructured, preserving Bob’s gift to the Shenandoah Valley.   Bob, a retired airline pilot, had a deep passion for music, particularly the music of the big band era.  The Yesterday Swing Orchestra was brought into existence through Bob’s leadership and dedication and stands today as the Big Band of the Shenandoah Valley. Because of Bob’s vision the orchestra continues on as an outlet for community members to listen to, or participate in the performance of Big Band jazz ensemble music.

With deepest gratitude, the members of the Yesterday Swing Orchestra honor the memory of our Founder, Bob Johnson.  Thank you, Bob! You will not be forgotten

“I don’t know who’s having more fun, you or us.” (Bob Johnson)
